NPHI Welcomes Willamette Vital Health

The National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI), the national voice for not-for-profit hospice providers, welcomes Willamette Vital Health (WVH) as one of its newest members.

WVH is a non-profit organization founded in 1978 and based in Salem, Oregon. Formerly known as Willamette Valley Hospice, the organization supports adults and children living with a serious or life-threatening illness through Marion and Polk counties and beyond.

“We support Willamette Vital Health’s mission to provide innovative, personalized, and compassionate care for patients and families facing serious illness,” said Tom Koutsoumpas, NPHI CEO. “Willamette Vital Health’s values of caring, teaching, and empowerment enable them to provide high quality care to patients and their families. I look forward to working with them in the future.”

WVH provides services including hospice care, supportive care, grief care, and an adult foster home, as well as more specialized programs including music therapy and their Pet Peace of Mind Program, that offers financial resources and volunteers to keep patients and their pets together. WVH staff are also specially trained in providing support to veterans, who make up over 25% the organizations’ patient population. As part of their services for veterans, WVH offers a veteran-to-veteran volunteer program to help patients form special bonds with other veterans.

“Willamette Vital Health is excited to join NPHI. It is valuable for us to be able to learn best practices from other not-for-profit hospices in this ever-changing end of life industry environment,” said Iria Nishimura, CEO and Executive Director of Willamette Vital Health. “We look forward to being a voice in an organization, dedicated to advocating for non-profit hospices and palliative care programs nationwide.”

NPHI looks forward to working with Willamette Vital Health and continuing to advocate for high-quality, community-based, not-for-profit hospice, palliative, advanced illness care to patients throughout the nation.
