NPHI Welcomes Hospice of Northwest Ohio as its Newest Member

[WASHINGTON D.C., January 1, 2023] – The National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI), the national voice for not-for-profit advanced illness, hospice, and palliative care providers, proudly announces the addition of Hospice of Northwest Ohio to its membership of 100+.

Hospice of Northwest Ohio stands as a beacon of specialized care, offering comprehensive medical, emotional, and spiritual support to individuals of all ages facing end-stage illnesses in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. In addition, the organization is dedicated to providing compassionate support and education to the families and caregivers of those in their care.

“We are delighted to extend a warm welcome to Hospice of Northwest Ohio as the newest member of NPHI,” stated Tom Koutsoumpas, NPHI CEO. “Their unwavering dedication to ‘serving patients, families, and each other with wholehearted kindness, empathy, and attention to the holistic needs of all individuals’ resonates deeply with our mission. NPHI eagerly anticipates collaborating with the team in Ohio to ensure patients across the nation receive the highest quality compassionate and comprehensive care they deserve.”

Founded by a passionate and forward-thinking group of volunteers in 1981, Hospice of Northwest Ohio was established with the goal of enhancing end-of-life care for terminally ill patients in the local community. Today, it stands as one of the nation’s largest hospices, acclaimed for its leadership in delivering end-of-life care and educational services.

“Hospice of Northwest Ohio is excited to join the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation,” said President and CEO, Richard Russell. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with members across the country and be a voice in an organization that is dedicated to advocating for non-profit care programs nationwide.”

As a not-for-profit, community-based organization, it holds the unique distinction of being the sole local agency in Northwest Ohio entirely devoted to caring for the terminally ill. In the year 2022 alone, the organization extended its care to 2,306 patients and their families, whether in their own homes, nursing homes, or at its freestanding Hospice Centers. Notably, Hospice of Northwest Ohio remains committed to its founding principles, ensuring that no one is turned away due to the complexity of their care or their inability to pay — a duty that aligns with NPHI’s core tenets.

The National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation extends its warmest welcome and looks forward to collaborating with Hospice of Northwest Ohio, leveraging their expertise and commitment to championing the values of compassionate and patient-centered care on a national scale.
