National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation Honors Martin Luther King Jr.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Martin Luther King Jr.
[Washington, D.C.] (January 18, 2021) – The National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI), the national voice for not-for-profit hospice and palliative care providers that care for care more than 100,000 people facing advanced illness and their families each day, is committed to fighting and eradicating racial injustice – it’s a core tenet of our values and mission.
As we pause to honor the life and immense impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we continue to push for equality in end-of-life care. We must acknowledge & address that racism disrupts equal treatment for the patients and staff we serve.
This photo is from a recent meeting between the NPHI & C-TAC teams, working together for equality in healthcare to ensure all may access advanced illness, hospice, palliative care, as well as caregiver support during what is often the most challenging time individuals and families face.
Thank you to NPHI’s President, Carole Fisher and Senior Advisor Innovation and Health Equity, Altonia Garrett, and from C-TAC, Jon Broyles Executive Director, Board Member Reverend Dr. Yvonne V. Delk, Reverend Tyrone Pitts Senior Faith Advisor and Adriana Krasniansky Faith-Based Partnerships & Equity Intern.
Communities of color face systemic barriers to accessing health care. Racial disparities in health care are unacceptable. Together, we are reflecting on where we can do better in addressing racial disparities in both access to high quality end-of-life care and gaps in culturally relevant training and interventions.
We honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy on this day and must do so every day.
“The time is always right to do what is right.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
