Statement from NPHI on US Election Results

On November 6th, the Associated Press declared that Donald Trump is the new president-elect of the United States. In response to this news, the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) issued the following statement from Tom Koutsoumpas, our CEO:

Following the election of President-Elect Donald Trump, the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) reiterates its dedication to advocating for high-quality, compassionate care for all patients and families facing serious illness. NPHI looks forward to collaborating with the incoming administration and new Congress to address critical needs in healthcare policy, expand support for advanced illness care, and work toward a stronger healthcare future for patients, families, and caregivers alike.

In the lead-up to yesterday’s election, NPHI was closely monitoring various scenarios related to health policy and the potential impacts on our members and the broader healthcare community. With President-Elect Trump returning to the White House and a Republican majority in the Senate, we anticipate a shift in policy direction across several areas, as well as the introduction of new initiatives. The potential continuation of House leadership (still uncertain at the time of this writing) will also play a significant role in shaping the direction of healthcare efforts. The final makeup of Congress will directly influence which legislative priorities are most likely to advance, and NPHI will continue to track the results and assess how these changes will affect healthcare policy.

At NPHI, we are committed to ensuring that every American has access to dignified, high-quality care. We will work with the new administration to protect and enhance the Medicare hospice benefit, expand access to high-quality care at home, and advance policy solutions that center on patient needs and community well-being.

NPHI remains ready to engage constructively with the new administration and on Capitol Hill to strengthen support for our members, caregivers and families, and uphold high standards in healthcare, while prioritizing reforms that bridge gaps in our care systems. As the nation’s leading voice for nonprofit hospice and advanced illness providers, NPHI will continue to champion a healthcare model built on compassion, innovation, and integrity.

The National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) is a membership organization comprising nonprofit community-integrated hospice and palliative care providers. These members are dedicated to ensuring patients and their families have access to care that reflects their individual goals, values, and preferences. Representing providers from across the nation, NPHI and its members help design more innovative and effective models of care, advocate for comprehensive and community-integrated care customized to meet each person’s unique needs, and build collaboration between national thought leaders, decision-makers, and other healthcare stakeholders to improve hospice care.
