NPHI Hosts Discussion Focused on the COVID-19 Delta Variant and Vaccine Mandates
Today, the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) hosted Susan Harris, of Morgan Lewis, to lead a discussion focused on the legal issues related to mandated COVID-19 vaccinations. The membership also heard from NPHI CEO and Capital Caring Health President and CEO, Tom Koutsoumpas on Capital Caring Health’s approach to vaccine mandates. NPHI Chief Innovation Officer, Cameron Muir, MD added to the discussion with a presentation on statistics related to COVID-19 deaths, mask usage, and vaccine boosters. In addition, this session provided members with an opportunity to discuss other top of mind COVID-19-related issues.
“As vaccine mandates become more common, it’s more important now than ever to offer our membership support as they navigate this new phase of the pandemic,” said Tom Koutsoumpas, CEO of NPHI. “We are thankful to have heard from our legal partners at Morgan Lewis and our colleagues at Capital Caring Health on the latest federal guidance as well as best practices that prioritize safety and accountability among staff.”
The conversation, entitled “NPHI Member Engagement Call: COVID-19 Update,” was part of a biweekly series of NPHI-hosted discussions to address today’s pressing hospice topics through engagement with health policy experts, thought leaders, and other industry innovators.
The discussion was meant to offer a legal perspective on COVID-19 vaccination mandates as they relate to the workforce, provide an update on Capital Caring Health’s vaccine mandate memo, and allow NPHI members the opportunity to ask presenters questions and receive detailed feedback and advice. Notably, the presenters provided attendees with information on the legal outlook of asking staff their vaccine status, key differences between state vaccine mandates and federal mandates, and best approaches to religious exemptions to vaccinations.
