NPHI Hosts Discussion on Latest Innovations in Models of Care (9.3.20)

Today, the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) hosted Gary Bacher, Chief of Strategy, Policy, & Legal Affairs, of Capital Caring Health and the former Chief Strategy Officer for the Center Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), to lead a discussion on innovative new models of care. These models of care included various CMMI models such as Direct Contracting, Primary Care First, and the Medicare Advantage hospice carve-in along with broader opportunities to partner with health plans to offer upstream services.

“The potential to partner with health plans along with the new models of care coming out of CMMI offer exciting possibilities for our members to innovate and NPHI is thrilled to assist in facilitating that conversation,” said Tom Koutsoumpas, President & CEO of NPHI. “Models such as the Medicare Advantage Carve-In and Direct Contracting, offer our members an opportunity to engage in services beyond hospice care while leveraging their expertise as interdisciplinary service providers that work within a per-diem environment. These opportunities can provide benefits to patients, providers, and the broader communities they serve.”

The conversation, titled “NPHI Member Engagement Call: Models of Care”, was part of a biweekly series of NPHI-hosted discussions to address today’s pressing topics through engagement with health policy experts, thought leaders, and other innovators.

The discussion aimed at presenting and educating NPHI’s not-for-profit hospice member organizations on the cross-cutting opportunities provided by new models of care delivery. The dialogue focused on understanding population health and value-based care fundamentals, the basic architecture of these models, and a roadmap for working with payors to implement them.
